Truth #2: The Outcome Is Not The Outcome
Whatever we try to do in life — achieve a goal, land a job, save a relationship, start a business — we don’t always get the outcomes or results we want.
It can feel “painful” when our expectations aren’t met. We’ve usually an emotional attachment to a certain outcome we’ve formed in our minds.
We might feel frustrated, angry, depressed, and think that the world has conspired against us.
But what if there’s a bigger chain of events at play? What if the fact that you didn't get the outcome you wanted is actually a good thing? How do you know?
The truth is we can’t know. It’s like the philosopher Alan Watts once said:
“it’s really impossible to tell whether anything that happens is good or bad, because you never know what will be the consequences of a misfortune, or you never know what will be the consequences of good fortune.”
